When student walk into the cafeteria, they may notice something a little different about the new selection of snacks and drinks. Snacks are a big part of the day, and recently, the cafeteria has changed things with a new selection that has students from everywhere talking.
Snacks are an everyday essential; they help students recharge and feel energized to move on with their days. When students have a greater variety of snacks, they are more willing to explore the options in the cafeteria. Senior Nathan Asfaw said, “ I love the new variety of snacks and drinks, and want the cafeteria to explore new main course options other than pizza and chicken tenders.” Asfaw noted that he specifically loves the “new Vitamin Water flavors” and added that they “bring a new versatility to the drinks for students.” Asfaw also emphasized his love for red Doritos;, however, he does find them highly repetitive at times. Asfaw would love a wider variety of chips and new soda selections other than Coke and Sprite. Asfaw’s go- to snack recently has been the new chocolate chip muffins. Asfaw said, “The muffins taste amazing and are an underrated item in the cafeteria store.” These muffins have recently been placed into the lunch line, and people are definitely raving about how good they are.
Many students prefer snacks that fill them up and help prevent them from being hungry throughout the day. However, senior Griffin Osher prefers something “lighter,” like Oreos and Welches. Osher is a very active person, so he prefers something lighter to avoid any cramps throughout his sports practices. Osher also noted that he loves the new Smart Food popcorn option because it “tastes amazing, and is somewhat on the healthier side.”The word on the street is that this popcorn was recently placed in the cafeteria instead of the sea salt and vinegar chips because the cafeteria wanted to add more variety other than what they had before. Osher is a soda lover; however, the cafeteria doesn’t provide his favorite, Dr. Pepper. Osher would love for more variety for people who love soda as much as him and more drinks in general for him to choose from.

Along with the new changes in the cafeteria, there have also been some new changes with snacks and drinks around school. The variety within the vending machines allows students to grab snacks on the go during passing periods when the cafeteria is not open. The machines are super easy to use and take Apple Pay and cards, so students who don’t have cash on them can still purchase any snacks or items. The machines consist of energy drinks, which help students energize throughout the long school days; chips, which help students get a quick snack on the go; and seaweed, which gives the students a versatile snack that isn’t offered every day. The machines have been a hit so far.
While every student may not love every new snack the cafeteria has to offer, the changes show the cafeteria’s effort to improve the experience for all students by creating a space where students can grab a quick bite and go on with their day.
