Are you staying in Cincinnati over Spring break? If so, there are many fun things to do around the city. Spring break is a time to relax, have fun, and enjoy the weather. Teacher, Laura Dombek-Crain stated, “Right around then, even though it might still be cold, it always starts to feel like spring is coming.”
One of the most common places students at Seven Hills enjoy going to over spring break is Smale Park. Smale Park is a riverfront park next to the Ohio River. There is a long path that people can walk on. There are also playgrounds, swings, and lots of nature along the way. The swings overlook the river, and there are fun activities for kids, including a giant foot piano. Smale Park also comes with useful amenities such as a locker room as well as a pavilion that can be heated or cooled. The park is also used as a place to hang out after Reds games and Bengals games. It is also a common location for events and concerts. Smale Park is a multipurpose park that is enjoyable in any season, but especially in the spring. It is a spring staple in Cincinnati to try out!
Another fun place students both love to go to and want to visit is Findlay Market, located in Over The Rhine, Cincinnati. Findlay Market is one of the oldest public markets in Ohio. It contains more than 50 merchant stands where people can buy their groceries and get something to eat. Around the main market, there are thrift stores and small shops to walk through. There are also small restaurants and other places to get food around the market. On weekends, there are live performances and events that take place for everyone to enjoy, as well as a farmers’ market to buy fresh groceries!
Painting pottery is a pleasant activity to do over spring break. Mad Potter is a great location to paint pottery at. One of the Mad Potter locations is in Madeira, Ohio. The activity includes picking out a premade piece of pottery and glazing it any way you would like. They fire the piece for you, and you are able to pick it up around a week later. This activity is relaxing and fun to do with friends and family.
There are many other activities that students enjoy doing and places they like to go. Other activities include going to the Cincinnati Zoo and the Museum Center. The Zoo is a great place for people of all ages to enjoy nature and the presence of fascinating animals. The Cincinnati Museum Center offers many different sites for all ages as well. From the Holocaust exhibit to the children’s play areas, there is something for everyone to do.
A place that students want to try that is not an activity is 7brew. 7 Brew is a drink shop that allows you to make your own drink combinations. Common locations include Newport, Kentucky, and Westchester, Ohio, but there are many other locations that are accessible. Many have said it is very fun and the drinks are tasty!
One of our teachers at Seven Hills also had some insight on what to do over spring break in Cincinnati as well. Dombek-Crain mentioned how she enjoys going to the Cincinnati Nature Center because it reminds her of the warm weather soon to come. She also enjoys walking around the city itself: “I especially like going downtown.” Dombek-Crain stated how she enjoys exploring places other than the suburbs and wants to continue to find more trips to view nature and explore more of Cincinnati.
