The school’s wifi has had many complaints this year and has never been well-liked by many students and faculty members. I, however, wanted to get to the bottom of this and figure out what students think the reason behind the wifi not being great is, and what the tech office has to say about all of this so that I could come to my own conclusions.
My original thought on why the wifi was not the best was because there are so many people using the school’s internet all at once, which makes it hard for the wifi provider and overall internet to operate at a high speed. However, this was not the reason.StephanieNutter, who works in the tech office, said she is aware of the concerns with the Wifi. They are working very hard behind the scenes to figure out the issue, and the Director of Technology is working with the internet provider to identify the issues regarding the Wifi. Nutter also stated that the new Director of Technology has been working on looking at different internet providers. “He has been looking at different vendors.”
While the technology department works to fix the problem, students remain frustrated about the Wifi access. Junior Theo Sansalone said, “The wifi is not good at all.” He said that he can never do work and that it slows him down when he is trying to work on schoolwork at school. Sansalone believes that the fix is simple. He said, “Pay whatever internet provider we are using more money so we can get faster internet.”

Senior Cam Castillo has similar frustrations with the school’s Wifi. She said that it is very slow and hard to do anything efficiently. Cam admits she doesn’t know how to fix the problem: “I do not know; however, it used to be a lot better last year, so I do not know what happened.” Many people do not have answers for why the school’s internet is not the fastest; however, the tech office is working on it, and students should just be patient.
My advice is that not everything is going to run 100 percent smoothly because, after all, technology does not work that way. Since the technology department knows about the problem and is working on a fix, all students can do right now is try to make our experience the best that it can be. People need to do a better job at not having many tabs open and making sure that their iPads or laptops are clear. If you have programs running in the background of your technology, it may slow down the speed of the device. So, in conclusion, my best advice would be to be patient with the internet. With time, the problem will be fixed, and everything will be fine.
