At Seven Hills, Halloween has always been a holiday that some students love and others dread. Each year, the celebrations bring a mix of excitement, costumes, and school-wide activities that make the day stand out from the usual routine. Whether you’re all in for the festivities or would rather skip the chaos, Halloween at Seven Hills is definitely an experience.
This year, the student government decided to make a change. In years past, the holiday has been about celebrating in between classes (during passing period and lunch) and having all of our A and B classes in one day. But this year, the student government decided to petition for no classes on Halloween and to make the entire day about celebrating. When asking students what they thought about the new change, Senior Faith McLennan and Senior Senator Rose Vecellio had good things to say. When asking the girls how this year’s celebration compared to last year, McLennan said, “I definitely think this year was way better. I really liked that we didn’t have any classes, and I felt like we centered the day more around Halloween instead of just throwing in a little bit here and there and then going back to normal classes”. This opinion seems to be pretty popular among the students. When asking Vecellio what she thought of the day, this is what she had to say, “I think this year was a lot more, just like overall fun and better because especially being on the student government I know there was a lot of planning that went into this, and I think we just really hit it off this year. I think the no classes really helped everyone just appreciate and celebrate Halloween better.” Overall, I think it’s safe to say that students liked this year’s celebration a lot more than last year’s.

Alongside the no classes, a lot of talk has been stirring about the costumes this year. From amazing group costumes like the emotions from Pixar’s Inside Out to an Alice in Wonderland hyper-realistic ensemble, this year’s costumes were no joke! In years past, people haven’t really taken the opportunity to dress up. Back then, you would maybe see the occasional upperclassman dressed up in a tutu, but this year’s devotion to celebrating made the costumes phenomenal. Traditionally, seven hills would have done a quick costume competition in the gym after lunch, but this year, everyone was gathered in the courtyard to have some outdoor fun. When asking McLennan what she thought about the competition, this is what she had to say: “My friends and I did Inside Out, and I thought that was really fun, and I felt like the costume competition this year was really fun too. I feel like everyone really just went all out this year because we really took time and celebrated it”. Alongside faith saying everyone went all out this year, Vecellio said something very similar: “It was really also amazing to see all of the group costumes for the costume contest. I feel like this year’s costume contest was the best in 7 Hills history.”The best in history is a bold statement, but it’s safe to say she is correct.
From the new schedule switch to the amazing costume contest, Seven Hills really stepped it up this year. But it’s not “Seven Hills” who is responsible; it is our senior senators who worked tirelessly with teachers to be able to provide this amazing day for students. Finally, the pumpkins are carved and the candy is gone… Now, what’s going to be the stingers’ next spell ?”
