STINGER NATION!! With the soccer season entering the playoffs, the weather cooling down, and Halloween around the corner, that can only mean one thing: HOOP SEASON is finally here. If you haven’t been caught up with the boys basketball team for this upcoming season, here are my predictions for the start of the season for your Stingers.
Game #1
@ MVCA
A good old-fashioned rivalry as they say. The Stingers take on a tough matchup against MVCA, whom we split the series with last year. I spoke with jJunior John Haney about his thoughts on the season and what to expect from the boys team after losing key pieces last year. Haney said, “We’re just going to have to work together, score by committee, and make up for the points we are losing.”The Stingers historically play well in MVCA’s stadium, and I think that won’t change this year. I don’t think MVCA can physically match the Stingers. 46-35 Win.
Greg Richardson elevates as he hits a tough layup against the St. Bernard Titans.
Game #2
Vs Summit
When I think of Summit vs Seven Hills, I immediately think of a battle—regardless of who is favored to win. Year after year, Seven Hills has a chance to win, but falls short. This year, there is a different feeling in the locker room. I asked junior Devin Denson how he thinks the Stingers should play against Summit’s star-studded roster. Denson said, “Games like that, when the other team has star players, it always comes down to defense and effort.” The Stingers are hungry this year, establishing their identity on the defensive side. This might blow people away, but I have the Stingers flipping the script this year. 40-37 Win.
Game #3
Vs CCS
The Stingers start the season hot, and I don’t see them slowing down at all. This game shouldn’t be close. The Stingers match up very well against the Cougars and have dominated their 2-3 zone for years. With the student section packed on a cold Friday night, the stadium pulse will be too much for the Cougars to handle. The team cruise control through this game and start conference play 2-0 for the second straight year. 67-41 Win.
Game #4
@ New Miami
The Stingers look to head into the holiday break undefeated for their second straight year. Some games are over before the team even shows up, and this is one of those games. Stingers dominate the Vikings, improving to 5-0 heading into the holidays. 75-8 Win.
Game #5
Vs CCD
The Stingers and CCDS split the series last year. Two very competitive teams who don’t like each other. With the absence of Bryce Snell, the Stingers should dominate the backcourt. This year, I don’t think it will be close. I believe the Stingers will win by a landslide; double-digit lead for sure. With the Stinger’s run-and-gun pace, I have the team on cruise control. 55-32 Win.
Hope to catch the Stinger Nation alive in the hive this year. The boys basketball team is hungry for a state championship this season and glory for the blue and gold. Come out and support and pack the stands to cheer on your fellow Stingers.
