Music has a way of bringing people together, capturing emotions, and telling stories. At our school, there’s no difference. From favorite songs to dream concerts, students and teachers alike have unique tastes and unforgettable experiences with music. Get ready to explore how music resonates within our community by asking compelling questions about people’s musical preferences. Music flows through the veins of our school, a constant backdrop to the laughter, chatter, and buzz of daily life. Beyond the beats and melodies lies something more profound: the reflection of who we are as a community.
Walking through the campus, one might hear the bass-heavy beats of hip-hop, or you may listen to country or classical music. Students often come together into groups, each with its own “anthem” for the day. Some embrace the latest pop hits, while others delve into alternative tracks that resonate with a more profound, personal vibe. Music has an unparalleled way of resonating with the soul. A favorite song can transport us to cherished memories, comfort us in times of struggle, or energize us when needed to feel motivated.
With the advent of music streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, creating playlists has become a trend. Students develop specific playlists for every mood, from lo-fi beats for late-night cramming to the groovy sounds of alternative pop. When asked, “If you could create a soundtrack for your life, what three songs would be on it?” senior Kate Grabiel stated, “‘This question is deep, but “Wagon Wheel”, “Passenger Princess”, and “Honey Honey.”’
Playlists are made to express how community members are and how they feel. Teachers have even incorporated this trend into their classrooms. Mrs. Utah’s Chemistry teacher had her students create a playlist to listen to during labs and group work because it inspired them. It was a creative way to help students connect and learn more about each other. In Ms. O’Conner’s room, she likes to play jazz to keep her students relaxed and calm during class. Music isn’t just an individual activity; it’s a social one. Lunchtime jam sessions in the Commons, karaoke nights during school events, and collaborative playlists for group projects or sports teams are all part of the culture.
While individual tastes vary, specific genres dominate the school’s music scene. Pop remains a favorite, with artists like Taylor Swift and Drake frequently appearing in hallway conversations. Rock is always in the hallway conversation, with students passionately debating their favorite groups. Ms.Bloom loves to listen to Beyoncé and Whitney Houston. At the same time, Senior Kate Grabiel loves to listen to Coldplay. Many people in our school listen to different types of music, strengthening our community. This diversity in music taste isn’t random; it reflects how music connects with us emotionally and socially.
Music at our school is more than background noise; it’s a universal language that brings people together. Whether through casual conversation about their favorite artists, songs, or bands, the love of music is a shared experience. As the school year unfolds, so does its soundtrack. A constantly evolving mix of voices, instruments, and beats mirrors the vibrant personalities of everyone who walks these halls.
