The senior lounge is one of the places that is constantly thought about by not only students but teachers as well. Nobody knows what goes on in the senior lounge and the things it has to offer, and many underclassmen wonder if they will even spend a fraction of their time there as seniors. Even though the senior lounge is a great place for seniors to chill and relax their minds during their free time, there can be some small changes that could be made to make it a little bit more enjoyable.
The senior lounge is a great place for seniors to interact with each other and have a great time. It offers lots of privileges that no other places in the school have, such as a PlayStation 4, a ROKU, and the ability to have your phone out anywhere in the space, even after Seven Hills introduced the new phone policy (And free food!). These three incentives attract most of the seniors and it allows for a great time.
The senior lounge also offers an outdoor picnic table, which is Senior William Huguenin’s favorite aspect of the senior lounge. Huguenin is a part of student government and was one of the minds behind assembling the senior lounge. Another attraction the senior lounge has is its comfortability. Senior David Haas would describe the senior lounge as “the most comfortable place in the school.” It offers two big couches and various bean bag seats that are spread around the room that students make useful. There are also cushioned seats that most people use when playing on the PlayStation.
While the senior lounge has a lot of great things to offer, it has wiggle room for improvement. The PlayStation is the only form of games that the senior lounge has, and there are only two controllers which limits two people to be playing at once. “We hope to add more games such as spike ball, a deck of cards, and a football for students to use when they have free time,” Huguenin said. This would allow for more interaction and multiple people to play games at one time, which would make for an overall better time in the senior lounge. The additions would also free up space in the senior lounge which can get crowded at times depending on how many seniors have the same free bell.
Along with the lack of games and the crowding of the space lies an odor. When walking in, there is a light scent and personally, I don’t smell it, but it seems that the rest of the senior class has a problem with it. When interviewing Haas he said, “I don’t know if we can do much about that.”
Senior Abby Deimling said, “We need an essential oil diffuser.” I agree with Abby because it would give the room a better overall smell and be able to keep out any odors coming in without spraying an overwhelming amount of air freshener which can make people cough and would make the senior lounge more unpleasant.
Overall, the senior lounge is undoubtedly one of the most cherished places for seniors, offering unique privileges and a comfortable environment for relaxation. However, making a few thoughtful changes like adding more inclusive multiplayer games, and improving air quality could elevate the lounge even further. These changes would not only reduce overcrowding and make for a more comfortable place but overall create a more inviting environment.
