The cafeteria gets many critiques from different students including the high prices and many different reactions from the students due to the raise in prices, which is why I interviewed John Snyder in the cafeteria, about the prices of the cafeteria. Many students do not like the prices due to the already high tuition and believe that the tuition should include lower cafeteria prices.
When asked about the cafeteria prices, sophomore Gabe Herman said, “The prices are way too high.” Junior Lemuel Zyonn and sophomore John Haney do not even know the prices of the food in the cafeteria. Zyonn does know the prices of the drinks, however. There are many mixed reactions concerning the cafeteria as a whole many students have also said they would like to see an improvement to the cafeteria selection and supply of food overall.
There has been an increase in prices in the cafeteria. Mr. Snyder who works in the cafeteria states that the plate lunch has gone up 25 cents, the sandwiches have also gone up 25 cents as well as the price of cream cheese going up. Most of the items in the cafeteria have stayed consistent throughout the years. Mr. Snyder states that the chips may have gone up 25 cents. The price of meat also has gone up a little bit. The reason for the price increase is because everything is way more expensive to get nowadays due to inflation. But Mr Snyder likes to keep the prices as low as possible for us. Companies that the school orders food from often lower and raise their prices, so it’s hard to maintain the same price for a long period. Overall the cafeteria really cares about the student body and is not trying to “scam” us and the prices are just based on how much it costs to purchase the items.
Despite all of that information, many students still believe that the cost should be brought down because of the large tuition we have to pay. I have heard many students say that they think there should be a set amount of money that we get to spend in the cafeteria per month, ranging from $50 all the way up to $100.
In my opinion, I agree with the cafeteria; while it is annoying how high the prices are, I understand where the cafeteria workers are coming from, how it is a pain to get the items, and how the prices have gone way up throughout the years, and I appreciate the efforts the cafeteria has made to make the prices be as low as they possibly can have them. In conclusion, the cafeteria really cares about the student body and always try to make prices as low as possible for us. The issue is that sometimes it is not possible to bring these prices down due to inflation and the demand for the items.
