So far, although it is still very early in the school year, the seniors have had many small highlights; one that really stood out was the Senior Sunrise. This year, the turnout of this event was great as many students got to reconnect with their classmates after summer, build connections with new faces on campus, and have a warm, cozy moment with friends whom the students are spending their last school year!
With many big events around the corner, this was a perfect time for the seniors to kick back and relax before locking down on applications and their big year ahead. To make this moment a sincere memory for the seniors of the Seven Hills community, senior senators Rose Vecellio, Davion Washington, and Nina Head organized a potluck-style breakfast, along with games and other activities to participate in. As this is an annual event that takes place at the beginning of every year for the graduating seniors, it has become more than just a tradition: for this senior class, it became a moment of connection, laughter, and anticipation. Two seniors were interviewed: here is what they had to say about their favorite parts of the Senior Sunrise.

Senior Ellie Krause shared that some of her favorite parts of Senior Sunrise were spending quality time with her friends and taking photos to save the moment. While she enjoyed activities such as pickleball and picture frame decorating, she said, “Bouncy castles and other activities from the picnic last year could have been fun”. Although she believed this might be out of budget for this gathering of students, she thought it could be a fun activity to incorporate next year for rising seniors. Senior Lamari Lewis also enjoyed the Senior Sunrise, mostly for the chance to hangout with his friends, and eat while taking in the “senior experience.” While Lamari appreciated the activities, he noted that the girls in the class took more photos than the guys: “I wish the guys took more pictures together because I know the girls took a lot, but the guys weren’t as active with photo taking”. Although he enjoyed the spike ball and other mini games on the field, he wished the class had “one group bonding activity”. He mentioned capturing the flag or even a water balloon fight if it was warmer to “help with class bonding.”

Ellie also mentioned that she appreciated the flexible arrival time at 6:30-7:00 am. She emphasized that this “was a good time to get everyone situated.” Overall, she was happy with the outcome of this event. She believed that there should’ve been more contributions to the potluck-style breakfast. She finished off by mentioning how important this tradition is to all seniors by saying, “It’s such a fun little tradition that we have Senior Sunrise and Senior Sunset, and it’s a chance for our grade to come together and get closer.” Lamari also believes that the Senior Sunrise is considered a “fun tradition with friends” that occurs yearly to kick off the Senior Year.
Overall, the seniors believed that the Senior Sunrise was a strong way to kick off their final year at Seven Hills. Whether through the games, photos, or even enjoying a cozy moment with friends, the morning was dedicated to the Class of 2026 to slow down and connect before their final stretch began. As this fun tradition was started many years ago, many seniors hope this tradition continues in the years to come as it was a moment the seniors will likely look back on after their journey at The Seven Hills School comes to a close!
