How Prom Gets Planned

Before we knew it, April was here, and prom came and went. However, there are many talented members of our school community who put together lots of time and effort to plan the event, from picking the venue and setting times to sending out information and updates and picking food and decorations to make the event as memorable as could be. A big thank you goes out to the Seven Hills prom committee, consisting of seniors: Aj Lee, Nick Stetter, Reagan Licata, Reese vanRooyen, Sarina Bedi

The prom committee members were the students behind planning the event itself. Senior Anderson Lee explained that the prom committee planned the details of smaller things like food and games. “The only things we don’t pick are the date and the location. Well, and the price, we don’t get to set the price either, but the price of prom is mostly influenced by spending patterns of other schools,” Lee said.

When asked about planning and flexibility with locations, Lee responded: “The location gets picked about a year beforehand by Mr.Catalan and Mrs.DiRoma.” He also added that in order to make quality work happen within the committee: ”You just have to be easy to work with and easy to share your ideas. Be vocal, that’s how we get things done around here.”

Senior Abby Deimling who was also part of the prom committee shared her thoughts with me after the event itself: “Prom was fun. I’m glad it was at the aquarium this year, but the DJ didn’t play the songs from the playlist we gave him until the last 30 minutes itself. We talked about food and a certain amount of it, and we told them to get the photo booth; I thought it was good.” Both members agreed that ideas were shared and agreed upon very easily in the prom committee. All it took was being vocal and a simple vote towards the end to finalize everything and inform Mr.Catalan, the head of the committee, to make the event fun.

Other students also spoke fairly highly in anticipating prom. Many seniors expressed excitement about going back to the aquarium as the class had done for freshman year prom. Even junior Brendan McLaughlin seemed to agree: “This venue is the best venue, amazing. But the DJ’s are never that good.”

Seven Hills Prom was a success this year. There was a very big student turnout, and so many people had fun attending the event. Hopefully, the prom committee will have a good selection of students again next year to get the job done for a great prom for the class of 2026.
