This year’s Cleveland Cavaliers just feel different than other years. A 15-0 start, a new coach, and potentially four all-stars. In this article During this season, the Cavs have had unprecedented success.
I think the main thing is the new coach Kenny Atkinson. Kenny is a very offensive-minded coach and was hired in mid-July by the Cavs shortly after firing Coach JB Bickerstaff in late May. Atkinson has opened this offense, getting a lot more players involved in the game instead of just leaning on one guy to score 40 points like Bickerstaff did.
Another thing that is great about the emergence of the Cleveland Cavaliers is the emergence of Evan Mobley. Evan Mobley was selected third overall in the 2021 NBA draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers; through the first three seasons of his career, he has been an elite defender but had been a below-average offender. This season Mobley came out hot on the offensive side of the ball.
Another player who has taken a leap is Darius Garland. Last season he had a rough year suffering a broken jaw about two months into the year, and when he returned it didn’t seem that he was the same. But now this year he is back and better than before, ready to make a case for the all-star team after a down year last season.
It seems last year that Donovan Mitchell had to be everything for the team and was getting no help from his other teammates. However this year Mitchell has taken a bit of a backseat and let his other teammates eat as everyone around him is much better. Despite all of this Mitchell was still named an all star starter.
Another member of the team I would like to talk about is Jarrett Allen. Allen has been very good throughout his career, making the all-star team in his second year with the team, but this year I also believe he deserves an all-star nod because of his offense improving and sharing the frontcourt with another star in Evan Mobley once again.
Sophomore at Seven Hills Gabe Herman is also a Cavs fan and watches all of the games. Herman said a lot more about how he believes the Cavs have improved saying that he believes the biggest improvement so far with the Cavs this year is the tempo and pace that the team is playing at and how fast they are playing the game. This is a new thing for the Cavs as last year they had one of the slowest offenses in the league; this year’s Cavs team moves the ball well and fast and finds the open man for a shot while also maintaining a good pace of the game.
I believe that this Cavs team is the best we have seen in a long time from them, and I truly believe that they have an opportunity to win the NBA championship if they can stay together, play as a team, continue to be humble, and most importantly keep winning.
